Tell the PSC: Stop United Water’s desalination scheme – Manage water for people, not profits

Good news! Rockland County is creating a task force that will guide water resource management with local residents – not corporate profits – in mind. Well done, Rockland.

It’s another sign that a grass-roots movement wants sustainable, conservation-minded management – not United Water’s costly and unnecessary proposal for a desalination plant on the Hudson River. Now we need you to take the message to the Public Service Commission: Rockland does not need a desalination plant.

Tell the PSC that Rockland County does not require a new long-term water supply project because:

• Contrary to corporate projections, demand for water has not increased – in fact, it has decreased;
• There are easily accessible, affordable and sustainable ways to curb demand;
• A newly created task force will ensure Rockland County water use stays well below the available supply;
• Building an expensive, energy-intensive and environmentally damaging desalination plant will irreparably harm the economy and ecosystem of Rockland County.
