Hurricane Sandy showed us just how destructive storms fueled by global warming can be. How can we protect our communities while also minimizing environmental harm from barriers in the NY and NJ harbor area?
Riverkeeper President, Tracy Brown will discuss a proposal to protect New York coastal and Hudson riverfront communities from future climate driven storms, in an online discussion with Sierra Club Lower Hudson Group (Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, and southern Orange counties).
Earlier proposals from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were widely opposed by the environmental community as causing enormous harm to the Hudson River and other areas, while failing to protect our communities from sea level rise.
Tracy Brown will discuss Riverkeeper’s assessment of a new proposal by the Army Corps of Engineers. A public comment period is scheduled to end January 6.
