Entero Count

Enterococcus (“Entero”) is a fecal indicating bacterium that lives in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. It is the EPA preferred indicator for sewage contamination.

About this location:

This sampling site is located at the floating dock at the Inwood Canoe Club, 1,000 feet south of the combined sewer overflow outfall and official kayak launch at the west end of Dyckman Street. Access to the dock is for club members only, except during the club's public programs. Site coordinator: Bruce Shockey. Site sponsor: Inwood Canoe Club. These samples are processed by Columbia University/Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (Wade McGillis).
