Entero Count

Enterococcus (“Entero”) is a fecal indicating bacterium that lives in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. It is the EPA preferred indicator for sewage contamination.

About this location:

This site marks the point where the Bronx River meets the East River. It also experiences traffic from recreational boaters and kayakers. It is in the vicinity of a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) outfall just north in the east bank of the river.
