Enterococcus (“Entero”) is a fecal indicating bacterium that lives in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. It is the EPA preferred indicator for sewage contamination.

About this location:

The Saw Mill River runs along the length of V. E. Macy Park, between the parkway and the parkland. A paved walking trail parallels the river, but the waterway is mostly hidden due to thick vegetation. At this sampling site, there is a wide packed trail through the vegetation and to the streambank, indicating that this is an informal access point. This site was tested by Groundworks Hudson Valley's 2008-2012 study.
