Entero Count

Enterococcus (“Entero”) is a fecal indicating bacterium that lives in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals. It is the EPA preferred indicator for sewage contamination.

About this location:

This site, accessed from the Joseph B. Clarke Rail Trail, is situated between two wastewater treatment plants that discharge to the Hudson River. Immediately upstream of this sampling point, the rail trail is surrounded by wetland.
